Magical Mystery Tour to Dallas – Day 4

Hey guys, Adam here checking in from probably the most unexpected place yet that we’ve been to on this Mystery tour. After our awesome Mexican dinner in Amarillo, we drove west into another new state: New Mexico. Those of us who weren’t bus core had no idea where we might have been going but once we were told the clues we were pretty surprised. We ended up in Roswell, NM, most famous for its alleged alien encounter in 1947. We stopped off at Christian high school on the outskirts of town for the night where we treated to another night of generous hospitality including free reign of the facility and a filling dinner waiting for us. After the usual deal of lightning, STLF activities, and next to no sleep we woke early the next morning and headed over to a food mission tied to the High school. For the next 4 hours we packed over 3500 lbs of pinto beans, 2100 lbs of rice and did anything else that needed to be done while we were there. The work consisted mostly of loading the rice and beans into measured amounts. The pastor who hosted us was amazed at our efficiency and upbeat attitude throughout the entire time. He remarked how amazing it was that how much can be done when 40 college kids are hyped up on coffee and singing Disney showtunes for 4 hours. Before we took off, he estimated that we had done almost 6 months worth of work in the time we there, which made everybody feel ecstatic.

We had about an hour after our project to roam around and, of course, we couldn’t leave Roswell without checking out the UFO museum (and International UFO Research Center). It was pretty interesting to say the least. The only thing I regret was that we only had an hour so we couldn’t properly sift through all the insane conspiracy theories. It did have some pretty cool exhibits though and the sci-fi fan in me enjoyed it. At least now we can say that we’ve been there. We took off for our 5th and final city before Dallas around 1:30. Needless to say, we’re all pretty anxious to get there it’s finally time!
